Are you ready?
Are you prepared?
Are all your ducks in a row?
Do you remember where your ducks are?
Ready or not the flood gates are about to open. There probably isn’t a dept in
the state that isn’t looking at the 3% @ 50 retirement benefit. As they are
adopted retirement boards are overwhelmed with
the mad rush for the exit. We voted for it in our next contract, and when it’s
adopted we will loose between 26 and 34 captains in the coming months.
So the question is “ARE YOU READY”. Because there’s nobody that’s going to do
this stuff for you, and trust me the other guys are getting ready. Ask yourself
these questions. Have you spent more time in the last few months getting ready
for your test or trying to get laid? Have you spent more money on your
preparation or on late videos? Think about it because the game just got real.
You’ll sometimes here people talk about how easy it was to get hired back in the
70’s, people got hire right off the street, there was no test just a hand
shake. Well, in the years to come this may be the time people talk about like
that. Fire dept’s in the late 60’s and early 70’s got incentives for hiring
guys coming back from Vietnam. Those guys have 30 years on now and they are
ready to go, are you ready to
take their spot? Would you be ready tomorrow? Next week? Are you ever going to
be ready because your
Momma isn’t here to help you and remind you to get ready. You’ve got to get
your rear in gear and spend some time preparing, so you can get the job you
always wanted. You’ve spent enough time just making it
where you are now, you need to get that job that will pay you what your worth,
give you time to do those things you’ve been planning for years, and start
getting the respect you deserve.
So lets show everyone that all the time you’ve spent, all the nights you slept
on the sidewalk for an app., all the classes you took weren’t for nothing, but
were part of your plan to be happy for the rest of
your life. Because if your career in the fire service is anything like mine you
will be. Good luck. Call or email me if you have any questions.
