Quick Tip

==========================================

I often get e-mails from candidates wanting to know what I think about their answers.  Many are like this:

On the question “Why do you want to be a firefighter/law enforcement officer?”

Would it be a great idea to add a bad incident with a law enforcement officer? Below is what I want to use:

Years ago I got into dilemma with the law and I was arrested. From that day on I knew that I did not want to ever be on that side of the law again. I did not want to have the feeling of my rights being stripped away from me for something that I could have avoided. That year I did not have clear mind and I was very immature. A month and close to 2000.00 dollars later, I said to myself I need to change my ways and be a part of the prevention of crime and not the cause of it. I began taking criminal justice classes at a local community college with my focus of being a Crime Scene Investigator. I later enrolled at Kaplan University and began taking crime scene technician classes. I finished the required classes and receive my Crime Scene Technician Certificate. I later found out that in some departments you need to become a law enforcement officer in order to become a part of the Crime Scene field. With a clear mind and my immaturity behind me I made a life changing decision in becoming a law enforcement officer.

Thanks Dave

Reply:  NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   By the way did you practice this answer with a recorder before you sent it to me?

DP: I read it over a few times in my head before sending it to you. But I wasn’t quite sure if I should use this example.

I guess I will have to go back to the drawing board. I didn’t finish seeing/hearing all the videos. I will copy and past the work booklet on word and work with it at home.

Reply: Figured. When in doubt leave it out.  This is a typical guy thing.  I could tell.  Guys think about it, write it down and believe it's going to come out of your mouth like magic right?  Doesn't.  CD's said practice with a recorder right? The recorder goes everywhere your car keys go.  Don't waste both our time by sending me something you haven't practiced first.
