Psch ChallengeThis was a busy week. Sixteen of our candidates went forward in the hiring process in Sac Metro, Las Vegas, and Oakland. We also received a call the 1900 candidate in our program got their badge. This is what counts most. I had the pleasure of sharing their excitement and disbelief. This is a response from one of our candidates that went forward prepared. Capt. Bob: I purchased your tapes for the oral interview and your special report for the psych and was amazed by the whole process. Everything you've said has been right on the money and thanks for your insight. I just came back from my psych test and I did not "take the bait". He challenged me from my parents to my children and I would not go there.Reply From Captain Bob: The following should give you some insight why you need to be prepared for the psych: The only thing that bothered me was the psychologist tells me first thing is "I would not hire you." "You've been in your own business for eight years and still have it, who are you going to be loyal to the dept. or your business, probably your business." I replied that my business has been run by myself and my wife since day one and I'm confident my wife can handle it. He responds with "For all I know your wife is some air head that doesn't know anything." I did not give any response to this and he went on to other insults. All the while I remained calm and positive. Am I correct in thinking that he could not say I'm not suited for this position because I'm a business owner and he personally questions my loyalties? or is he just trying to get me to respond in some negative way? Your thoughts to my question would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Danny Captain Bob' reply: You answered correctly; even over the comment about your wife. He wanted to see how you would respond under stress like the job. He was trying to see if you were prepared to step away from your business. Good job. This today with another badge number 1901: Dear Sir, I want to first say thank you for all the information you post on the fire careers web site and the report you have written on the psych test. I just recently purchased the report to better prepare me for my upcoming psych test. With your help and assistance I was able to obtain my goal. I GOT MY BADGE!!!!! I start in September.
